Artist Statement

Danielle Kuhn

I work mostly with pencil and charcoal, and I also enjoy painting and sculpting with clay. I tend to work on a small scale because it is more relatable to me. When I work on such a scale it feels more personal. I relate my work to the human body very often, even though it is not usually obvious. When creating artwork I don’t like to tell the viewer what they are seeing. I create something that is personal to me and allow the viewer to make their own relations. The viewer should have their own understanding of why the piece was created. Finding a personal relation in a stranger’s artwork is very powerful. As a future art therapist this venerable and empathetic approach is very important to me.

  1. I agree with your statement- "finding a personal relation in a strangers artwork is very powerful". This artist statement allows me to understand your approach to art, and having taken a few classes with you in the past I would say the above statement describes your concept well. However, for those that might be viewing your work for the first time, I think it would be nice to provide some examples of your works and how they work to entice a reaction from your viewers.
Also, maybe you can include some concepts of what you wish to explore artistically this coming year.

    :)
